I am a plan appraisal surveyor at Hellenic Register of Shipping (HRS). 

HRS is a classification society devoted to the issuance of seaworthiness certificates for ships and other floating structures.

My job is supplementary to the ships surveys performed by onboard surveyors towards the issuance of these certificates as approval of the corresponding drawings and manuals has to be done beforehand.

And this is what my job entails indeed. Using certain naval architectural software packages I describe the ship’s hull into the computer and perform computations. These computations assist me in examining the submitted drawings and manuals which in case they are in accordance with the relevant international and national regulations I have to stamp and sign.
